Born and raised in the Bay Area, my early exposure to classical choral settings and contemporary gospel music alike greatly informed the development of my keen ear and multi-faceted vocal range.
As a woman of color, at times I have felt a certain duty to stylize my voice in a particular manner. Over time I’ve grown more confident in my truth that music isn't entirely informed by cultural background and uniquely personal experiences. There are universal human experiences and love experiences and topics of relational and familial heartaches that need to be explored in song. Then there's my expanded understanding of multiple genres and personal preference to explore those endless sonic possibilities. I'm learning to serve the songs above all else, because the songs tell the story, and I have the privilege to use my voice as the vessel.
Over the last ten years I've also had the privilege of partnering with some of my favorite musicians including Davie, Jordan Frye (Urban Rescue), Brenton Brown, Chris Llewylyn (Rend Collective), P-Lo, and Dominic Balli to name few. Whether in the studio, on a stage, or in a strangers living room, it has always been one of my greatest joys to watch the potential of a project rapidly expand through the art of collaboration. Everybody can win.
My love for making music continues to grow every day.
